I am your mentor (reflection by Joshua Tan)

Name: Joshua Tan                                      Date: 26 December 2017
Mentor: Abhimanyu(PL)

I met Abhi when I joined scouts in Secondary one.
Abhi is a caring, and cheerful guy that is always willing lend a helping hand,
when I have problems during scout meetings,
I would go to him and ask how to solve this particular problem.
I am his junior for about 2 years now, and I have learnt many things from him,
even though I am not in his patrol.Just this year,
Abhi and I went to Sabah for a leadership programme and during the trip,
we had to sit down together everyday in our group to do reflection about
how are we going to improve our leadership and change the way how we are
going to lead. One of the days, Abhi said that it is not the quantity of leaders
that is important, it is the quality of leaders, and through his speech,
he has enlightened me to be a better leader striving for better leadership qualities
and excellence in my character. Furthermore, last year  I was in one of the
reserves in the National Patrol Camp team, while Abhi was in the main team.
As part of the National Patrol Camp training, we had to go through a
mock camp to get a feel of how it goes during the actual camp.
The mock camp was 4 days and 3 nights. During the camp,
we had to tie structures and gadgets to prepare ourselves for the actual camp.
During the first day of the camp we had to pitch our own tent which I did
not know how, and I was in the team for pitching the tent, as well as Abhi.
When we just finished pitching up the tent the tent collapsed, because of me,
I did not hit the peg for the tent deep enough, but even though I had
made a mistake, Abhi did not scold me, instead he taught how to do it
the right way. In conclusion, through all the experiences I had with Abhi,
I feel that I was well taught and guided by Abhi and that I can be like him
in the future teaching others to be a great leader.
