Venture Foundation Course 2018

The  first major event in our venturing journey! As newly invested ventures, all of us were scared of this camp. Many of our seniors who had gone through this camp themselves had said that this camp is a physically and mentally demanding camp. Also this was a rare occasion in which we were treated like young adults and expected to know the basics of scouting. As Ventures, we were put through various scenarios to see how we would react to it. As a junior scout we are tasked to follow, in sec 2 we assist our juniors and PL's. In sec 3, we lead our juniors. In sec 4, as venture scouts, we plan and implement. This camp had us planning for different activities. My group had to plan for the cooking session. We had to conduct an activity for the other venture scouts and successfully make the activity enjoyable. Pre camp, our group had most of the things settled and well planned. We were very enthusiastic and looked forward to the camp itself.

During the camp, we were the first group itself to conduct the activities. We gathered the equipment and begun. I was in-charge of teaching the others how to prepare the food for backwoodsmen. After the 3 hour long session of cooking, we did our reflections and learnt how to effectively communicate our instructions.

After that we proceeded to participate in the other activities that other groups had prepared for us. The most fun of them all had to be the sour grapes activity. We all had to climb over our friends and retrieve a scarf. We kept the heaviest person for the last and when we finally managed to lift him up, we all cheered and felt a sense of victory.

overall, VFC was an essential and necessary course for all new ventures. It is filled with interesting activities and equips a young venture with the ability to convey, communicate and think effectively. Th friends I made in this camp are permeant and are people that i would definitely keep in touch with for years to come
